Furano, one of Hokkaido’s premier year-round resort destinations, is set to welcome a new luxury hotel as Westin Hotels & Resorts, a prestigious brand under Marriott International, prepares to break ground on a new development in 2026.
The upcoming hotel will be situated in the Kitanomine ski resort area, one of two major ski zones in Furano. Westin has secured approximately 13,500 square meters of land for the project, which will be developed in partnership with Sekisui House, a leading Japanese residential construction company headquartered in Osaka. This marks a significant expansion for Westin in Japan, as the new Kitanomine Westin will become the brand’s eighth hotel in the country and only its second property in Hokkaido.
The first, The Westin Rusutsu Resort, has already established itself as a top-tier destination, earning the title of "Japan’s Best Ski Resort" at the 2024 World Ski Awards. With its reputation for delivering exceptional hospitality, wellness-focused amenities, and a seamless blend of luxury and nature, Westin’s presence in Furano is expected to elevate the region’s appeal to international travelers and investors alike.
