New World Le Plume Resort by Rosewood

The developer behind the ambitious La Plume Niseko Resort project has filed for bankruptcy, marking a significant setback in Hokkaido's luxury hospitality sector. The Tokyo District Court officially commenced bankruptcy proceedings on April 8, 2025, following the developer's financial difficulties.

La Plume Niseko Resort was envisioned as a high-end destination featuring 219 guestrooms and five villas, nestled between Mount Yotei and Mount Annupuri. The resort aimed to offer guests amenities such as private hot springs, fireplaces, and panoramic views, complemented by two restaurants, a spa, and conference facilities.

Construction had been underway, but escalating costs, labour shortages, and logistical challenges contributed to the project's halt. The developer's financial strain ultimately led to the bankruptcy filing.

Stakeholders are now closely monitoring the situation in Niseko, a region known for its rapid growth and appeal to international investors, to assess its impact on the local real estate and tourism markets.
