Goryu Morimori Adventure enters its first autumn with guided buggy tours and paintball, alongside the resort’s established upper-mountain attractions.
Hakuba Goryu’s new outdoor activity programme is heading into its first autumn, giving visitors another reason to spend time at the resort before winter. Goryu Morimori Adventure, which opened on 17 July, combines guided buggy outings and paintball activities in the wooded Iimori area. Its published season runs until 18 October, overlapping with the usual autumn-colour period higher up the mountain, although the two experiences take place at quite different elevations.
The programme makes use of the lower mountain, where the operator places the activity area at around 800 metres above sea level. In its August introduction, Hakuba Valley described two-person buggies travelling through the forest with a guide, following an initial practice session and routes selected to suit participants’ ability. Tours can accommodate up to seven vehicles and 14 people, making this a small-group outing rather than an open driving circuit. For people who know Goryu primarily through winter visits, it offers a closer look at woodland normally passed on the way to the lifts.
The choice of buggy course matters, particularly for families. The main Morimori course lasts about 70 minutes and requires the driver to hold a standard driving licence; passengers must be at least six and able to wear the seat belt properly. Listed prices are ¥6,500 for a buggy with one rider or ¥7,900 for two. A shorter, 40-minute introductory course has different rules, allowing drivers aged ten or above who meet a 130cm minimum height requirement, with a licensed passenger accompanying them. Overseas visitors should check the operator’s accepted licence documents before booking, rather than assuming that the age requirement alone establishes eligibility.
Paintball has also developed beyond the target-shooting activity described at the launch. The operator now lists a team battlefield for groups of four to ten, with a minimum age of 15 and adult accompaniment required for under-18s. The session takes approximately two and a half hours, including instruction, equipment and the games themselves, so it needs a larger gap in the day than a quick stop between sightseeing. Target shooting remains a separate option from age eight, with parental consent and accompaniment rules for younger participants. Families should therefore choose the activity first and check its particular conditions, as there is no single age threshold across the site.
Autumn creates an appealing combination with Goryu’s established upper-mountain attractions, but it is worth keeping the geography in view. The operator’s seasonal guidance places the usual colour around Alps-daira, at 1,515 metres, from late September into mid-October. It describes the lower Iimori area as typically colouring from late October onwards, after the adventure programme’s scheduled closing date. A visit in early October could therefore pair upper-mountain foliage with greener woodland below; it should not be sold as a guaranteed buggy ride through peak autumn leaves. Actual conditions will depend on the weather.
Above the activity area, Hakuba Goryu Alpine Botanical Garden provides a different pace of visit. Its planted collection spans more than 300 species, with the main growing season extending from June to October, and the gondola brings visitors to the garden at Alps-daira. Seasonal flowers and autumn foliage will naturally offer different experiences, so summer photographs are not a reliable preview of a late-season visit. The Alps 360 restaurant beside the upper gondola station also gives mixed-age groups somewhere to pause, while those continuing higher can check the separate walking routes and lift arrangements.
The new activities are useful for visitors who want part of a day outdoors without committing everyone to a mountain walk. They still require some preparation: reception is on the second floor of Escal Plaza, participants are asked to arrive ten minutes early, and trainers and clothing that can get dirty are recommended. Weather can affect operations even where ordinary rain does not automatically cancel an outing. With the season ending on 18 October, the practical approach is to reserve a suitable session and check the mountain’s current conditions separately, allowing the upper and lower parts of Goryu to contribute different things to an autumn stay.
