Dormy Inn Premium to Open Near Kutchan Station Ahead of Shinkansen Boom
In a major move for Kutchan Town’s urban development, Tokyo-based Kyoritsu Maintenance has announced plans to open a Dormy Inn Premium hotel near JR Kutchan Station. Known for its popular business hotel chain Dormy Inn, this will be the brand’s first-ever location in a Hokkaido town or village—and the first major business hotel to enter the Kutchan market.
Construction timelines are still pending, but groundwork has begun. The company purchased a 4,600 sqm plot on the south side of the station in March. Demolition is already underway, and full-scale construction will begin once the design and contractor are finalized.
Dormy Inn Premium locations feature larger rooms and higher-end amenities than standard Dormy Inns, targeting both leisure and business travelers. With successful branches in Sapporo, Otaru, and Kushiro, the new Kutchan project reflects rising demand in the area driven by ongoing infrastructure development.
Kutchan is poised for transformation with the planned arrival of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, expected to extend to Sapporo after 2038. The extension of the Trans-Hokkaido Expressway (Shiribeshidō) will further improve access, driving more traffic to the Niseko region and surrounding towns. With this transportation shift, demand for accommodation catering to business and tourism is forecast to surge—and major brands are taking note.
For investors and developers, Dormy Inn’s entry signals growing confidence in Kutchan’s long-term commercial viability—not just as a ski destination, but as a well-connected, year-round hub.
