We buy, sell, restore and manage Kyoto Machiya (traditional shophouses), large hardwood timber farmhouses and even former temples and other niche buildings. We employ teams of highly skilled *Miyadaikus* (master temple carpenters) to convert these historical buildings into unique, elegant and comfortable residences. Our mission is to provide beautiful homes of the absolute highest quality to our customers whilst preserving and protecting Jaan’s unique architectural heritage. We bring more than 25 years of experience in sustainable development and heritage preservation, from restoring 300-year-old timber barns in Scandinavia to creating off-grid, 5-star bamboo resorts in Bali. In 2018, we expanded our focus to Japan, working with heritage preservation societies to rescue and restore large, high-quality timber farmhouses (Kominkas) from regions like the Japanese Alps. These farmhouses are carefully dismantled, restored, and reassembled in premier locations such as Niseko, Hakuba, Furano, and Hakone. At Heritage Homes Japan, we specialize in the meticulous restoration and renovation of traditional Machiya and Kominka properties in Kyoto. With deep respect for Kyoto’s cultural heritage, our expert team blends traditional craftsmanship with modern amenities, creating culturally authentic yet comfortable living spaces.
